.KEY MESSAGES...

* A weather system will bring one more day of slight chances of
  light rain to the region today as well as gusty north winds.

* Quiet weather returns heading into the next work week.

.DISCUSSION...Today through Friday.

A closed low pressure system will continue to push inland into
northwestern Mexico today as it phases with an upper-level longwave
trough digging through the Great Basin. The cold front associated
with this longwave trough will bring another slight chance of light
rain to the forecast area today, with best chances in Mohave County.
Additionally, gusty north winds will pick up areawide today, with
gust speeds generally between 20 and 30 mph. Gust speeds between 30
and 40 mph expected in the higher terrain as well as along north-
south oriented valleys, such as the Colorado River Valley. Ensemble
guidance indicates that locations such as Laughlin-Bullhead City and
Needles will struggle to exceed 40 mph, though hi-resolution
guidance is quite robust with 70-80% chances of exceeding 40 mph.
Regardless, speeds at or slightly exceeding 40 mph will be isolated
in space and time this afternoon, so no wind headlines expected.
Wave heights will range from 1 to 3 feet on Lake Mead, Lake Mohave,
and Lake Havasu, resulting in hazardous boating conditions for small
craft. Temperatures will bottom out behind the cold front on Sunday,
with afternoon highs 1-3 degrees below seasonal normals.

Ridging returns to the southwestern United States next week, which
will allow temperatures to gradually increase each day under mostly
sunny skies. High temperatures will range 4 to 6 degrees above
seasonal normals by Thursday. Expect persistent breeziness along the
Colorado River Valley as a result of periodic shortwave passages.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Winds
will back to the north early in the period, increasing to 10-15KT
with intermittent gusts to 20-25KT through early evening. Wind
direction will be somewhat variable between 350-020 true for a
majority of the period, with a lull in winds expected this evening
into tonight ahead of a second push of gusty northwest winds prior
to daybreak. By mid-morning, gusts will diminish, with winds
becoming light and veering to the northeast late morning into
early afternoon. SCT-BKN ceilings between 8-12kft will improve
through the afternoon, with clear skies returning this evening.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Scattered showers
across far southern Nevada, southeastern California, and
northwestern Arizona will continue pushing southward through this
afternoon, with heavier showers accompanied by brief periods with
ceilings around 4-5kft. Dry conditions return areawide this
evening, with northerly winds gusting to 20-25KT expected across
the region this afternoon through sunset. Exceptions include KEED
and KIFP along the Colorado River Valley, where terrain
enhancement will maintain gusty northerly winds through the
forecast period, with stronger gusts to around 30KT expected at
KIFP. Additionally, at KVGT, a secondary push of gusty
northwesterly wind is expected late tonight through Sunday
morning. In the wake of showers, SCT-BKN ceilings around 8-10kft
will gradually improve, with clear skies returning areawide by
late evening.
