Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Seattle WA
323 AM PDT Thu Mar 26 2026

.SYNOPSIS...
Zonal flow aloft with a weak warm front moving by to the north
today. Weak upper level ridge building tonight and remaining
over the area into Saturday. Upper level trough approaching
Western Washington Sunday moving through Sunday night into
Monday. Next system trying to reach the area Wednesday.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Satellite imagery shows cloudy skies over the Cascades. Clearing
in the lowlands except near the convergence zone over Northern
Snohomish/Southern Skagit county. Cool early morning with most
temperatures in the 30s at 3 am/10z.

Convergence zone will continue to create a chance of showers in
the lowlands and some minor snow accumulations in the Cascades early
this morning before dissipating later this morning. Weak warm
front moving by to the north this afternoon will bring some
cloud cover to the northern portion of the area with a chance of
showers. For the remainder of Western Washington mostly sunny
skies. Even with the sunshine temperatures will be on the cool
side with highs in the lower to mid 50s.

Weak upper level ridge building over Western Washington tonight.
The ridge will remain over the area into Saturday giving the
area a short dry spell. Flow aloft turns southwesterly later
Friday pushing some high clouds over the region Friday night
into Saturday. It`s too early to issue a freeze warning ( they
start in April ). Lows over the Southwest Interior and Southern
Hood Canal Friday morning will be in the 20s. Lows in the lower
to mid 30s for the remainder of Western Washington. None of
these readings are near records. Seattle has set only two record
lows in March since 1990. The record low for Friday is 26
degrees set in 1975. Highs Friday warming a little, in the mid
50s. The increasing high clouds Friday night into Saturday will
keep morning lows in the 30s and knock a couple degrees off the
highs Saturday, in the lower 50s. Felton

&&

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...Upper level
ridge shifting east Saturday night with an upper level trough
approaching from the northwest. Trough moving through Sunday
night into Monday morning with shower chances increasing during
the day Sunday ahead of the trough. Snow levels below the passes
with some minor snow accumulations in the mountains Sunday night
into Monday. Northwesterly flow aloft behind the trough Tuesday.
Next system moving down out of the northwest approaching
Wednesday. Models at this point indicating a possibility of this
system splitting as it moves inland later Wednesday with the jet
aimed at Southern Oregon. Because of the possible split and
slower eastward movement with the jet digging south pops only
in the chance category Wednesday. Operational models solutions
indicating measurable precipitation even with the split. Pops
might be a little low for day 7.

&&

.AVIATION...
Westerly flow aloft is expected across Western Washington today
as a weak system clips the northwest corner of the state late
today. A few pockets of MVFR ceilings in and around lingering
showers and a decaying convergence zone will dissipate this
morning with widespread VFR conditions expected for the
remainder of the day.

KSEA...A few lingering clouds may lead to some tempo MVFR
through around 15Z then VFR is expected for the rest of the day.
Surface winds southerly 7 knots or less will veer light north to
northeasterly after 00Z.

&&

.MARINE...
A surface ridge will shift onshore then strengthen today. The ridge
will move east of the Cascades on Friday for light northerly or
offshore flow. Another ridge will build in the coastal waters on
Saturday then weaken late in the weekend as a frontal system
approaches the area. A weak front will move onshore on Monday with a
weakening ridge sliding eastward across the waters on Tuesday.

&&

.HYDROLOGY...
No river flooding expected in the next 7 days as March ends on a
quieter note.

6.35 inches 2nd wettest on record. The record is 7.02 inches in
1950. Olympia rainfall through the 25th, 9.01 inches currently
